Kelly Berry, President
B.A. in Applied Math and Business, Drew University, Madison, New Jersey
M.B.A., University of Wisconsin Eau Claire
My husband and I moved from the hustle and bustle of New Jersey, just outside of New York City, to the quiet, traffic-free life of Western Wisconsin in 1994, and we were very happy to raise our family here. I worked for several large companies at the start of my career, specializing in data analysis, and then spent about five years teaching full time in the College of Business at UW Eau Claire. I started my own consulting firm in 2005, working with entrepreneurs and growing businesses and I also teach in the University of Wisconsin MBA Online Consortium program though UW Eau Claire.
I am a certified Market Research Specialist through the National Center for Economic Gardening and a licensed Peer Group Facilitator through the Edward Lowe Foundation. I love working with growing businesses and start-ups, getting wrapped up in their passion and desire to grow, and feeling that I can contribute at least a little to that process.
I agreed to take on the position of Board President for eSucceed Virtual School for exactly that same reason. I am fully behind the mission and vision of the school, with its unique Environments of Success model and a focus on project-based learning both in person and virtually. And I am excited to be a part of the process from the start, working with the administration, teachers and students to stay true to our mission and see the program grow to meet our vision.
When I’m not working on growing eSucceed or my own clients’ businesses, I am spending time with my husband of nearly 30 years and my two kids. Our son recently graduated from University of Minnesota and is living in the Twin Cities area and working as a software developer. Our daughter is a college student at Minnesota State – Mankato. I love to take my dog for long walks, stay active with tennis, yoga and biking, and travel and read as much as possible!
Kristel Tavare – Secretary
Director of PreK-12 Initiatives
Chippewa Valley Technical College
B.S. Family and Consumer Sciences Education
M.S. School Counseling
I have spent my entire life dedicated to education. I taught Family and Consumer Education, served as a school counselor for Kindergarten through post-secondary education, and currently serve as the Director of Pre-K 12 initiatives at CVTC. I am passionate about helping students experience success and realize their potential while in high school. By removing barriers for students we can ensure all students have the opportunities they deserved to find their passion & identify their career path.
I choose to be a part of the eSucceed board because of my experience teaching students through project based learning and seeing them find success. Project based learning allows students to have choice in how they apply their learning in a meaningful way.
I spend my free time with my husband traveling across the state watching our boys play hockey and our daughter compete in gymnastics.
Shannon Camlek
Former Altoona District teacher, Owner of StoneStory.org
B.A.. Elementary and Middle Education
Master’s Degree in Professional Studies–Emphasis in science
I have worked for the Altoona School district for nearly three decades as an elementary and middle school teacher. Throughout my tenure I have been involved in writing curriculum in the areas of project based learning, gifted and talented, and behavioral needs. I thought of my classroom as a “children’s laboratory.” Children were given tools to explore, design, create, and market their work—writing, tech projects, math games—personal learning projects with consulting and coaching from experts.
I chose to work with eSucceed because of my desire to connect with learning on another level. I am impressed with the concept of a consortium dedicated to project based learning and using technology to connect with learners in a format that is innovative and needed.
My husband is a science teacher for the Eau Claire School district and I have three children. Emma is an engineering student in college, Connor is a senior in Altoona, and Nora is making her way through 7th grade at Altoona. We are invested in small communities and access to quality learning. As a family we enjoy traveling and boating.
Jim Parent, Vice President
B.A. University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire
Juris Doctorate – Hamline University School of Law
My wife, Monique, and I live in Hudson, Wisconsin, and have one adult son. I was born and raised in Phillips, Wisconsin. I received my B.A. from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1986, and during my Junior year had the privilege to serve as the Student Body Vice President. I later attended and graduated from the Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, receiving my Juris Doctor in 1989. While in law school, I received the American Jurisprudence Award for excellent achievement in the study of Legal Advocacy.
Volunteerism was instilled in me at a young age. I am or have been a member of various civic organizations including Lions International, Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Masons, Knights Templar Masons and the Shriners. I was the Vice President of the first Board of Governors for the Children’s Dyslexia Center of Upper Wisconsin and served on the Board of Directors for the Menomonie Free Clinic.
Upon learning of eSucceed Virtual School, I was extremely intrigued with its vision to be a project-based learning center. The more I investigated the school, those involved, and project-based learning, the more I knew I wanted to be involved. Growing up in Northern Wisconsin I remember the difficulties of providing certain opportunities to students due to the socio-economic realities of the region. I am very excited to be a part of helping to grow this school and provide opportunities to students they would otherwise not have.
I am a partner in the Eau Claire based law firm of Weld Riley, S.C., managing its satellite office in Menomonie. My practice focuses on domestic and family litigation dealing primarily with divorce and post-divorce issues. My practice covers much of Northwestern and Western Wisconsin. Prior to joining Weld Riley, S.C. I was a founding partner of The Law Offices of Burgfechtel & Parent and later after a merger, president of Schofield, Parent, Mayer & Huff, S.C.
In my spare time I am an amateur competitive natural physique builder and an avid downhill skier, muskie fisherman, and tennis player.
Brandon Phelps – Treasurer
BS Mechanical Engineering, Milwaukee School of Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer
I am the President at Titan Air which is a manufacturer of industrial HVAC equipment. As the President of a manufacturing company, I have seen the wide range of skill sets and learning styles that people have as employees and students.
I was interested in serving on the governance board for eSucceed to help provide students with a different, unique, environment to learn and apply what they have learned. The project based learning allows students to learn the skills needed in a more real world environment and better prepare them for their next step in education or entering the workforce.
When not working, you will find my family and I at a wrestling tournament, baseball field, or in the woods deer hunting.
